Chicken Duplex

Lisa and I were able to spend the weekend working on a project  here on the farm. Lisa has always enjoyed our chickens, but as they have grown older, their egg production has fallen off.  Because of this, Lisa wanted to increase the size of our flock to ensure that we always get enough eggs. Her goal is to have ten chickens living on the farm with us, happily producing eggs for us.  Unfortunately,  our current coop, as cool as it is,(see above) is not large enough to handle the new demands. Hence, the addition to the chicken palace which has now become more of a duplex.  Surprisingly, we were able to get it all under roof over the weekend, a feat we were only hoping in our wildest dreams to accomplish.  In fact, we were able to do all of that and install much of the hard ware cloth as well.  Of course, this means we're about 75% completed with only another 75% to go.
 Starts with a first block
 Critter barrier in place
 The framing goes up quickly

Roof supports in place to finish Saturday's efforts, now off to church

Roof in place along with a shelter for the birds while they roost

We got some hardware cloth installed in most of the panels, the size of the addition approximates the existing structure which will give us twice the space.
Another view that gives a better, overall view of the progress. We'll try to get some paint on it this week before we go off to Doug and Amy's to help with their coop.
